Sun Spots and Discoloration

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, aka photofacial, is a way to improve the color and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. You may notice it mostly on your face, neck, hands, or chest.

F.A.Q.s

What is IPL Photofacial?

An intense-pulsed light (IPL) photofacial is a treatment that directs light energy to the skin to address a wide variety of skin concerns. Skin rejuvenation with IPL is a great option for those who are experiencing any of the following:

  • Blotchy skin
  • Redness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
What Can I Expect from IPL?

IPL photofacials offer a gentler alternative to other laser skin rejuvenation treatments. Each treatment session usually takes about an hour to complete, after which patients can often go right back to their daily routine. Treatment with IPL is relatively comfortable; most patients describe the sensation as nothing more than a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, we can discuss topical numbing options with you prior to your treatment, if desired.

You will likely need multiple treatment sessions to get the results you want. Most patients get to enjoy optimal results after three to five sessions, each spaced about a month apart.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Because treatment with IPL is so gentle, any possible side effects are mild and will disappear quickly. Immediately after your treatment, you may experience some redness or swelling. However, these side effects will only last for a few days.
