ActiveFX Skin Rejuvenation in La Jolla, CA

Resurfacing: tone, texture, tightening

The cosmetic dermatology professionals at Torrey Pines Dermatology & Laser Center in the San Diego area use the ActiveFX™ laser system for our laser skin resurfacing treatments because it offers excellent results with fewer complications than competing laser systems. The ActiveFX™ system employs “fractionated” resurfacing, similar to the Fraxel® system, treating only small portions of the skin at a time and leaving areas that do not need treatment unaffected.

What Is ActiveFX™ Laser Treatment?

ActiveFX™ is a high energy fractional laser that interacts with the skin’s surface causing the upper layer to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin. The laser beam uses a fractional pattern technique making the healing process much faster, enabling you to get back to normal activities sooner. This laser targets fine lines, sun damage and improves tone and texture.

What Is DeepFx Laser Treatment?

DeepFX uses fractional CO2 laser microbeams to precisely target the deep dermal layers of the skin. The deep laser pulses lead to tissue regeneration and new collagen formation throughout the entire treatment area, ultimately resulting in long-term collagen remodeling. DeepFX targets deeper wrinkles and scarring and provides remarkable results with minimal downtime.

What Is TotalFX Laser Skin Rejuvenation?

The TotalFX laser treatment is a combination of DeepFX and ActiveFX. When used together, they are capable of offering the full range of fractional resurfacing: DeepFX offers a deeper micro-ablative treatment to target deeper wrinkles and scarring, while ActiveFX offers a large superficial spot treatment targeting sun damage, as well as tone and texture. With TotalFX we are able to achieve maximum results in collagen production and skin resurfacing in one single treatment.

How Does It Work?

At our dermatology practice serving greater San Diego, we use the ActiveFX™ laser skin resurfacing system to stimulate collagen production in the inner layers of the skin, promoting smoothing and tightening throughout the affected area. The ActiveFX™ carbon dioxide laser also removes unhealthy patches of skin, causing production of fresh, new skin, and, because it is more powerful than the Fraxel® laser, the skin requires only a single treatment session of about 30 minutes to achieve optimal results.

Who Are Good Candidates for ActiveFX™ Laser Treatment?

ActiveFX™ laser treatment is a great option for people who are looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also ideal for those who want to make their skin appear more youthful, since it can improve the look of acne scarring, sun damage, and age spots. Patients who have recently had Mohs surgery are also excellent candidates as the Active FX helps to remove sun damage and remodel scars from the Mohs surgery

ActiveFX™ is a good treatment choice if you’re looking to improve the texture of your skin. It can reduce pore size, fine lines, and wrinkles while giving your skin a healthy glow.

What Happens During a Consultation?

During your ActiveFX™ treatment consultation, we will discuss your goals and concerns, as well as your medical history. We will determine whether ActiveFX™ treatment is right for you, then discuss the procedure in detail.

What Does It Treat?

Patients can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sun spots, uneven pigmentation, loose skin, and other symptoms of aging and sun damage when utilizing the ActiveFX™ laser skin resurfacing system. Patients will be able to recapture the youthful beauty of smooth, healthy, taut skin.

What Can You Expect?

ActiveFX™ patients can expect excellent, long-lasting results that begin to appear during the first week following treatment. The treatment process is brief and patients should expect three to five days of “downtime,” after which they should be able to return to normal daily activities. The use of PRP (the patient’s platelet rich plasma taken from a simple blood draw) reduces recovery time by two days. Most patients will endure minor side effects such as redness, swelling and peeling during the recovery period. Patients will be given a skin care system to prepare their skin prior to the laser and to help them recover from their treatment. The redness and other side effects will fade as the skin heals.

Patients should not wax, epilate, or shave for at least three days after their ActiveFX™ treatment. Do not use products with alcohol or fragrance, since these ingredients can cause irritation to the skin. It is also important to avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours and to stay out of the sun for at least three weeks after the procedure.
