FEMALE VOICE: Mohs surgery is a technique that's actually been around since the thirties. It was developed by its founder, Frederick Mohs. And it's a way of removing skin cancer little by little using a scalpel, but also using the microscope to guide you to make sure that you have removed every last cancer cell out there. Unlike regular surgery, with Mohs surgery, if you remove a skin cancer, there's only about a 1% chance of recurrence, whereas with regular excision, there's about a 15% chance of recurrence. I'm one of a handful of fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons here in San Diego. And I do focus a large portion of my practice on Mohs surgery.
