DR. LEE KAPLAN: I've enjoyed a national education from a geographic standpoint. I finished high school in Massachusetts, college in Illinois, and medical school in California. And then I was smart enough to come to California 35 years ago and stay here. I've had the opportunity to practice dermatology in San Diego County in a number of different venues. I had a solo private practice for approximately ten years. And subsequent to that, I was on full-time faculty at UCSD where I had the privilege of serving as Director of Clinical Dermatology. I also served as chief of dermatology at the VA Medical Center in San Diego. And in the last dozen years, I've been back in private practice. And since June of 2008, I've had the privilege of working at Torrey Pines Dermatology. I get an opportunity to see a large number of patients during the course of the year. And I create some personal relationships with many of those patients. And in addition and dermatology in particular, you can see the results of your work almost immediately or certainly within months. It's a tougher go in medicine where you have to rely on blood tests, for example. Here you can look and you can say yes, that cancer is gone, or yes, that psoriasis is clear, or yes, that acne is considerably better. There are very few other fields where you can get that kind of response visibly and quickly.
